Who Was Nathan Adams?
Nathan Adams Elementary (built in 1969) was named for an innovative banker who was an early leader of the First National Bank of Dallas (now part of Bank of America). Beginning in 1907, Nathan Adams helped to drive early growth in the Dallas area by providing loans for local cotton and wool ventures. He was also an innovator in the field of oil and gas financing. In addition, Adams served his country by managing the sale of U.S Treasury securities in Texas to secure significant financing for World War I and World War II.
Nathan Adams was born in Tennessee in 1869. He died at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas in 1966, at age 96.
Schools in Dallas are named by the Board of Trustees; nominations for names are taken from the community, parents and students.
According to the Dallas ISD web site, “schools are generally named for people who have attained prominence locally or nationally in the fields of education, science, art, statesmanship, political science, or the military; who were early pioneers of Dallas or Texas; or who were outstanding U.S. presidents.”
